The International Visiting Fellowship Program in Women’s and Perinatal Pathology at Brown University aims to expand expertise in the diagnosis, testing, and screening of diseases affecting women and newborns worldwide.

This fellowship program provides an opportunity for international physicians to gain additional specialized experience in gynecologic pathology, breast pathology and/or perinatal pathology. Successful participants of this program have subsequently taken on leadership roles in their respective institutions and national organizations.

About the Fellowship

This 3-month to one-year program is based at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, with 16 full-time pathology faculty exclusively dedicated to diagnosis, research, and education in the healthcare of women and newborns. An international trainee must be sponsored by his/her government, medical school, or hospital.  On-site living accommodations are available.

Please submit the following documents:

  • A cover letter or personal statement explaining interest, goals, areas of study, and current status
  • Complete curriculum vitae to include educational, training and employment details.  Please list teaching and/or research activities, presentations and publications.
  • A recent photograph
  • A copy of your local medical license and pathology board certification diploma
  • A financial support letter from the sponsoring university, medical college, government agency, or hospital, indicating the amount of support per month or total per year
  • An employment guarantee letter the sponsoring university, medical college, government agency, or hospital upon completion of fellowship training (This document may combine with the above requirement in a single document)
  • Other financial documents including personal savings if institutional support is deemed not sufficient 
  • Three letters of recommendation from institutional leaders, mentors, or colleagues
