Affiliated Research Centers

Legorreta Cancer Center

The Legorreta Cancer Center is building world-class cancer research programs that bring basic science discoveries about cancer, interdisciplinary clinical, translational, and population research to innovative therapeutic, disease intervention and cancer prevention clinical trials to patients in the State of Rhode Island.

Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing

The Center for Alternatives to Animals in Testing at Brown is using state-of-the-art, humane approaches to identify human health risks.

Center for International Health Research

Founded in 2005, the Center for International Health Research at Rhode Island Hospital links laboratory and population-based science in an effort to address urgent global challenges.

Core Facilities

The COBRE Center for Cancer Research Development (CCRD) Molecular Pathology Core Laboratory

The COBRE CCRD core facility provides state-of-the-art instrumentation, support, and technical training for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and faculty at the Warren Alpert Medical School and its affiliated hospitals. Services include automated immunohistochemical staining, tissue microarray production, laser capture microdissection, quantitative real-time PCR, and data and image analysis.

Molecular Pathology Facility

The Molecular Pathology Facility provides all-inclusive histology and histopathology services, equipment and training. The core houses an automated tissue processor, a paraffin embedding center, automated microtomes, a cryostat, a vibratome and a multiheaded light microscope.

Lifespan Clinical Research Center

The Lifespan Clinical Research Center (CRC) provides sample processing and shipping to support a broad range of clinical trials. The center supports clinical investigators in conducting research on experimental, promising therapies and device development across medical specialties.

Maternal and Perinatal Tissue Bank

A unit with the Division of Perinatal Pathology at Women and Infants Hospital, the Maternal and Perinatal Tissue Bank offers maternal and fetal serum samples, cytogenic analyses, placental samples, and perinatal autopsies for clinical and translational research.

Brain Tissue Resource Center

The Tissue Resource Center at Brown performs neuropathologic examinations on all brain and tissue donations from Alpert Medical School's affiliated hospitals and distributes these tissues to investigators engaged in research
