The Fifth-Year Residency Track in Pathology provides an immersive experience for applicants with a strong research portfolio.
Resident applicants with a strong track record (typically MD/PhD but other intensive research training may be suitable) in research may apply for a fifth-year research position. This position, funded by the University, will allow the resident to have an immersive experience in an approved, externally funded (typically NIH) laboratory located within the Division of Biology and Medicine at Brown, or any of its affiliated hospitals. The expectation is that the resident will produce a hypothesis-driven first-author paper and will maintain a presence within the clinical department at seminars and grand rounds.
