The Pathology Residency Program at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is certified by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and is accredited to train up to 16 residents in a four-year program in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP).  The Program offers comprehensive residency training across its affiliated hospitals to create an expansive experience for medical graduates planning careers in pathology.

The Pathology Residency Program is designed to help the graduate physician acquire a broad knowledge of anatomic pathology and laboratory medicine; learn the techniques and methodologies required for continued professional growth; and develop teaching skills, research skills, and critical thinking habits.  Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on developing skills to obtain critical information from anatomic and clinical pathology specimens to act as expert consulting physicians in an integrated health care delivery team. The pathobiology of human disease is also emphasized to provide residents with the basis to understand and advance our knowledge of human disease throughout their careers.

The Program’s mission is to provide the highest quality residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, to enhance the value of undergraduate and graduate medical education for students at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University,  and to produce superior physicians with a commitment to life-long learning and the scholarly practice of pathology.
